About Us

Aidan and Ben Ellis are students in the Syosset school district. Their interests in native plants and pollinators were inspired by their own native pollinator garden. When Aidan was in 5th grade and Ben was in 6th grade they applied for a grant with the Bethpage Federal Credit Union to develop and install a planter with native Long Island pollinators. After winning the grant competition they successfully installed the project in June of 2021 at Wawapek Preserve. They are working to raise funds so that they can install additional pollinator planters in their community. They hope that these planters will inspire others to appreciate nature and the importance of pollinators.

They also have interests in water conservation. They developed a method to analyze water usage data to identify water conservation opportunities. They are working to gain access to data that will allow them to help their community as well as others in the US (and abroad) that are experiencing water shortages to significantly reduce water consumption.
